So I designed 5 quick images of scenes using the rule of thirds grid method. I used photoshop and the reference of the grid provided by Shiam. Photoshop is very useful for me in this project because it allows me to make all my crearions with precise detail and good quality. For this task i used the paintbrush tool with different sizes, opaceties and hardeness.

This piece of art shows a character walking up to an old abandoned house. This concepts main foucl point is the house because it is falling the crosshairs on the right side of the grid, This peice is one of my personal favorites because it is influenced by "what remains of Edith Finch" by Giant Sparrow Games.

As i was developing this image, i wandered if it fit into both the Rule of Thirds and the Golden Spiral, at first it didn't, so I moved my character into the centre of the spiral and now the main focus is the character.

Sketch overs
These are sketch overs of the two silhouettes that I would like to develop into the full development.

This shows my Dominant and Sub-Dominant forms, The red is dominant (biggest form) and the yellow and green are the Sub-Dominant forms (smaller forms), they all frame the focal point as the forms highlighted in green act as a frame for the focal point where as the yellow and red highlighted forms are used as leading lines.

Rule of Third
of concept art. The rule of thirds grid is a 3 by 3 grid that is placed as an overlay to an image, this overlay is used as a sort of guide for the artist because he or she will design the picture around the theroy that viewers and audience find it more visualy apepaling for more action to take place in one side of the image, so the artist will design the main point of acition on the crosshairs of the grid.
In this lesson I created some quick sketches to show the rule of thrids grid is used to create a piece

This image is of a mysterious figure walking down a back ally. The main focus of this image is the figure on the far right. This character fits the rule of thirds grid becasue the character goes down and hits all the crosshairs on the right side of the art. I was very much influenced with the game "The wolf among us" by TellTale Games.
This piece of art shows a character repelling down a cliffside down into a vast landscape. This image has the character in the top left crosshair drawing the viewers attention to the main character of the art peice. I was verv inspired by the game "Horiyon Yero Dawn" by Gurilla Games.
This piece of art has differrent points that could be the main focul point, the gird corsshairs fit to both the space ship and the planet but aso the main action would be the lasers shooting out of the ship, so the action takes place in the whole left side of the art work because not only is the lasers being shot into the left side but also the planet which is the dominant form in the picture. I was heavily influenced by the game "Star Trek".

This peice of art has a very obvious focul point (the character standing on the roof) he is obvious because he is shown to contrast the background but alos because he fits perfectly on the crosshairs on the left side of the screen. This piece is my personal favorite and most developed so far. It was heavily influenced by the game "Dead Rising" by Capcom Studios.

Mini Project
Sketch overs
These are sketch overs of the two silhouettes that I would like to develop into the full development.
Theses silhouettes are ideas for the final environment that I will develop. I chose a hellish theme. I chose this theme because it is quite an original theme and just a little bit extra for a design aspect due to the many different variations of what hell could actually be.
I have chosen to do my first concept with the eye because it seems like it would be fun but also quite a challenge to design.
Here I decided to change the orientation of the eye so that more of the environment could be seen instead of the concept being mainly the eye and less environment, now it's mainly environment.
This shows that i used both the infinity point and also the golden spiral to base my perspectives. This is to show how I have based my work around these methods of art. I used the infinity point to show that what the character is looking at is quite far into the distance and show a sense of depth to the concept. I used the golden spiral to get the proper shape of the eye and get the right curve on the reflection.
This image shows how I have used the infinity point and golden spiral to clearly show the possible focal points.
This is the light plan for my concept, it shows the directions of where the light goes from the source and to show where the light would flow through the objects in the scene.
This art piece by MC Escher has inspired me because of the eye, I was mainly influenced by the idea of the reflection in the eye, it inspired me because I am very interested in the challenge of doing the concept form the perspective of someone else's view.
Evaluation
In this project I have been briefed on creating an environmental
concept piece of my choice. I had chosen to draw an environment based on the theme
of hell. I was influenced with the eye by MC Escher’s eye with the skull
reflection in it, I liked this idea because the perspective drawing through
someone else’s view interested me a lot, and the reason I chose a hellish theme
because there can be hundreds of different representations of what hell could
be. Therefore putting these two influences together I decided to create a
hellish environment being reflected into someone’s eye.
In the project I used Photoshop to create my concept. I used
many different tools such as: the brush, eraser, both with varying opacities
and strengths, the pen tool, eclipse tool, although it is not as easy to do
tasks like blend or zoom in to get the small intricate details of pieces of art,
the access to other types of brushes and tools in digital painting then traditional
also the layering on digital is a lot easier too because you can edit them
whilst you work instead of constantly having to restart parts or even the whole
concept due to a mistake.
I used many different techniques to create the environment
such as the point of infinity to show the perspective of the concept and to
show how the view of the image will change as the image gets deeper. I used the
golden spiral method to curve the eye and show more of the focal point. Before
going too far into the environment development I made a light plan consisting
of where the light source is coming from and the direction to where it will travel.
I used clear leading lines to guide the audience’s
eyes to the focal point.
I started the project by creating a mind map of ideas that I could
create, such as different environments, styles, what could be included in the environment
concept. Then I moved onto doing the silhouettes, I created 10 initial silhouettes
on different possible environments that suited my chosen theme, which was the
hellish theme. After doing the silhouettes I then proceeded by making a sketch
over and more detailed version of two of the silhouettes. Following this I have
chosen the final piece and made a quick sketch and plan of where everything
would go on the concept such as the light plan and the leading lines guide. Then
I started the final development.
My game was very heavily influenced by the game "Overlord Hell Rising" which is set in a very hellish environment where you can call upon minions to help you through the game.
My game was very heavily influenced by the game "Overlord Hell Rising" which is set in a very hellish environment where you can call upon minions to help you through the game.
As you can see the minions in the game heavily resemble the human like characters in my art piece. The colour scheming in the game is very similar to the scheme i used in my concept as well as the shape dynamics.
I would have been able to do a more advanced and better piece
of work if I would have had more time and managed it better than I did, as I
spent too much time focusing on the art work and not the blog work. I would
have spent more time on the blog and more time developing my final piece to
make everything more refined and better quality, I could have also put more
into my blog work as well as the art.
I am very happy with the outcome of the concept. I have,
managed to create a detailed design suiting the brief that I was tasked with the
concept result was very detailed and the perspective and lighting was correct.
I was mostly pleased with the outcome of the actual concept, because I found it
quite challenging.
